Introduction

Ian McDonnell has over 17 years experience in the industry. He has held engineering positions at Cray Research, the supercomputer maker, where he created the Cray File Transfer Agent, and at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he helped develop and support Digital's ULTRIX operating system. He has been consulting for the last eight years. Ian is a versatile engineer with broad experience in UNIX, BSD, Linux and various RTOS operating systems, Internet protocols, both wide-area and LAN networking, real-time and embedded systems design, device drivers, OS kernels and systems integration.  In addition to his software know-how, Ian has excellent written and verbal communication skills and he pays close attention to quality and completeness. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Kent at Canterbury, England.

• Linux port to StrongARM based IXP1200 network processor, including BSP development, bootstrap and chip initialization. Linux ARM and PPC driver development for 10/100 ethernet, FPGA control, Gigabit network processor control. Protocol development: new Linux socket family, Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS).
• Port and bring-up of NetBSD/arm32 on an embedded ARM processor, including hardware bring-up, PCI and flash programming, device driver & tool development
